Item# HELE1

Description

AHS (1987). Large [28" tall x 61" wide - sometimes larger!]. White flowers early season.

Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans' features large, heavily corrugated blue-green leaves. Individual mature leaves measure 15.5" long by 11" wide. Multi award winner. Slug resistant. Very fertile. Best color is achieved in light sun. Like all blue hostas this big beauty will turn to green as the season progresses.

This hosta has a rich and important history. First introduced for sale in 1905 in Germany by G. Arends. Initially described as a cross of ('Fortunei' x H. sieboldiana), however Mark Zilis states that it is "most likely a cross of Hosta sieboldiana with 'Tokudama'". It is the single hosta variety that has allowed us to have the multitude of blue hostas with good substance that we have today.

This hosta is a winner of the prestigious "Popularity Poll" from the American Hosta Society. This variety has been named one of the very favorites of all hostas by the majority of the AHS members in an annual poll. Basically, this plant is "loved by all". An excellent choice for your garden.
